It seems funny to do a hot air balloon competition if the direction and speed depends of the wind. But they exist and they can be exciting!
A hot air balloon competition can have countless types of tasks that you could never imagine. The most usual tests are those where the pilot must throw a witness to a target.

It’s also well known the hare task, where a balloon starts earlier to fly and the rest must follow it. The hare usually lands and puts a target where the pilots must throw a witness.
There exist different tasks to know who’s the best pilot on air, where they must fly inside an imaginary area, or say an exact coordinate where they will fly in, etc. These tasks are punctuated by the Logger, that records all the balloon flight. This is the way of knowing which pilot has done best in each task. The pilots show their abilities moving to different altitudes, looking for air streams that direct them where they want.
